Tom’s story
Tom takes care of parts and the atmosphere
Tom has been working at Niverplast for almost seven years. He makes sure that service parts reach the right place anywhere in the world. But if you ask him what he enjoys most about his work, he does not start talking about packages, but about people. “You are never alone here. And you feel that, every single day.”
A world of difference
Tom joined through connections. “Looking back, one of the best choices of my life.” Before that, he worked at a place where everything was arranged more strictly, with clear lines. “Here you just walk into anyone’s office. Simply ask how their weekend was. That is normal. And if things get tough, we are there for each other. Joking around is part of it, and it is also genuinely warm.”
His very first shipment went straight to Australia. “I will never forget that, because I hardly traveled anywhere myself. Now I arrange parts worldwide. I even experienced a business trip to America. Yes, that is quite different from just Delden.”
Together, for each other
For Tom, team spirit is not something you hang on the wall in the canteen, it is something you do. At work, and also outside of it. He is a youth coach at the football club, under 9s, and he enjoys a chat with anyone. “Elderly people, children, people with disabilities, it does not matter to me. Even the guys who bring cake around always stop by for a joke. I love that.”
Passion with a capital P
Tom’s second home is in Enschede, more specifically, De Grolsch Veste. He has been an FC Twente supporter since 1996. His first match? “At home against Utrecht. It was exciting, there were riots that we ended up in the middle of. From that moment I was hooked, FC Twente is my club.”
Twente second tier
Since 1998 he has had a season ticket. For years he stood in Vak P, now he sits in the second tier. “Just with the guys from Delden. You see more, and you are faster at the toilet. Also handy when you take the kids.” Laughing, “Of course they will become Twente fans too. My wife has a season ticket at Heracles, but we are not taking that risk.”
For the vibe
His mancave at home is filled with scarves, photos, flags. That is where he sits with his friends. “For the atmosphere. For being together. And yes, for the football.”
