Counting products and creating batches with the SpeedBatcher

The SpeedBatcher is a camera counting system that counts and groups products into batches. This solution is applicable at the part of your production line, where the correct batches are prepared for packaging. The integrated 3D camera is equipped with laser triangulation, enabling it to register the passing products. By using the separating fingers, exactly the right number is allowed to pass through. Thanks to the use of the SpeedBatcher, we guarantee you optimal batching accuracy every time!

4 steps

How it works

Step 1

Product infeed

After setting the right number of products per batch, the first products enter the Speed Batcher.

Step 2

Counting and calculating

The products pass the 3D camera and are counted. At the same time the camera measures the length and width of the products and saves these data.

Step 3

Smart batching

Because of our ‘smart separation’ algorithm, batches are then created very effectively. When a batch is ready, mechanical fingers appear from below to separate the batch. These mechanical fingers can be controlled very precisely.

Step 4

Batch separation

The mechanical fingers move down to enable the next batch to pass through.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the SpeedBatcher do?

The SpeedBatcher automatically counts individual products and groups them into accurate batches before they enter the packaging machine. Using 3D camera technology and intelligent software, it tracks every product in real time and ensures each batch contains the exact number of products required.

How does the SpeedBatcher create accurate batches?

The system uses 3D cameras to detect and track every product on the conveyor. Niverplast's smart batching algorithm continuously determines which products belong together. Mechanical fingers temporarily stop or release products when needed, ensuring every batch is correctly formed before packaging.

Which products can the SpeedBatcher process?

The SpeedBatcher is suitable for frozen dough products, frozen pre-baked bakery products and non-frozen pre-baked bakery products. Typical applications include baguettes, bread rolls, croissants, breadsticks, bagels and many other bakery products.

Which product shapes are supported?

The SpeedBatcher can process a wide variety of bakery products, including rectangular products such as baguettes, stick-shaped products, round products, triangular products and diamond-shaped products such as croissants.

Can the SpeedBatcher handle different batch sizes?

Yes. The required number of products per batch can easily be adjusted through the touchscreen interface. The software automatically adapts the batching process to create the selected batch size.

What product sizes can the SpeedBatcher handle?

The SpeedBatcher processes products with lengths from 1.2 to 23.6 in (30 to 600 mm) and heights up to 6.3 in (160 mm). The maximum product width depends on the conveyor channel width, making the system suitable for a wide range of bakery products.

What are the conveyor requirements before the SpeedBatcher?

A minimum of 39 in (1 m) of straight conveyor is required before the SpeedBatcher. This stabilises products so they remain stationary while passing underneath the camera system, ensuring accurate counting.

Can a metal detector be installed before the SpeedBatcher?

Yes. A metal detector can be positioned directly in front of the SpeedBatcher. The flat conveyor surface also helps stabilise the products, and the reject mechanism does not interfere with counting accuracy.

Can the SpeedBatcher work with curved or inclined conveyors?

No. Curved, inclined or declined conveyors should not be positioned directly before or directly after the SpeedBatcher. Products must remain stable during counting, and straight conveyors are required after batching to maintain batch separation.

Does product orientation matter?

No. Products can enter the SpeedBatcher with either their long side or short side leading. The camera system recognises and tracks both orientations.

Can the SpeedBatcher perform product quality inspection?

No. The SpeedBatcher is designed for accurate counting and batch formation, not for quality control. The integrated camera system can monitor trends in product dimensions, such as length, width, height and straightness over time, but it is not intended to reject products based on quality specifications.

Is the SpeedBatcher easy to operate for new products?

Yes. The system includes an intuitive touchscreen interface and an easy product learning function. New product recipes can be configured quickly, allowing fast changeovers between different bakery products.
