Easy Open bags vs bags from a roll film

When you mechanically place bags into a box, there are broadly two options: prefabricated bags or bags manufactured real time from a roll of film. What is the difference between prefabricated bags and bags from a roll? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of the system you choose? We're happy to lay out the pros and cons for you, helping you make a choice that really fits your needs!

Bags from a roll film - Roll system

In the market, there are various machines available for inserting bags into boxes. One of the systems employed is a bag maker that produces made-to-measure bags in real-time from a roll of film and inserts them into the box. Another method involves a bag inserting machine that operates with pre-made bags, which are also unwound from a reel before being placed into the box. What is common to both systems is that the machines host a roll of film.

Premade bag - EasyOpen system

There are also machines that handle the method of automatic bag placing completely different! Machines like the CombiPlast or the EasyPlast by Niverplast operate using prefabricated bags. These bags are made according to the customer's specifications. We call them our EasyOpen bags. The bag inserting machines can accommodate multiple bag sizes, which are stored in the bag magazine, ready to be directly placed into the box.

EasOpen premade bags vs roll system competition

Okay, now it's time for a little battle. Check the video below to find out for yourself how both systems compare when it comes to refilling bags or film.

What advantages do prefabricated bags have over bags from a roll?

Now that you've seen the video, you know how easy to use and fast our bag placing machines are. And of course, we're preaching to the choir if we say that premade bags do have a lot of advantages over bags from the reel. But there really are a lot of benefits associated with premade EasyOpen bags.

The advantages of premade bags:

  • Very thin film materials are viable with our systems, capable of processing films as thin as 13 microns—a feat unachievable with real-time cutting and sealing. These material savings are not only better for your budget but also for the environment.
  • The bag magazine is easy to refill while the machine is running; so non-stop production.
  • The premade bags are already sealed and cut off in the Niverplast system and does not have to be done inside the machine anymore, therefore we do not lose any seal and-or cutting time and we don’t have wear and tear on sealing and cutting bars.
  • The bag is placed mechanically (without potentially contaminated air) in all 4 corners of the box.
  • At the factory, the Easy Open bags are regularly checked for deviations in dimensions and sealing characteristics.
  • Our CombiPlast is equipped with a very reliable carton erector. With 8 suction cups, the cardboard is held on both sides, and all tabs are folded in a stationary carton. This guarantees a perfect right-angled carton, which is important for tightly placing the bag.
  • You can buy your bags wherever you want to buy them. ( But for the best advice and service, you are in the right place with us. 😜Let us make you a good offer right away!)

The disadvantages of bags made from film on roll:

  • Have you seen a machine handle the film from the roll thinner than 20 microns? Ask for satisfied customers!
  • You pay the film per lb/kg, even the cardboard core needs to be paid for.
  • Between the seal and bottom of the bag there is always +/-3cm material that you need to use but has no added value.
  • Because threading a new roll is easier when the old material is not completely empty yet (splice it together with tape), we often see rolls with just a little film, too, that’s loss!
  • During roll change the system must stop most of the times.
  • Difficult to control the seal weld. Unless the sealing bar is kept continuously clean there is a chance that contamination of PE will affect the seal quality. A small piece of film on the welding bar is enough to cause poor sealing and leaking bags.
  • If the knife is not sharp enough, there is a risk that small pieces of film will fall into the open box.

And now?

So, if the idea of using less plastic, along with a fast and reliable system that guarantees 24/7 production, tickles your fancy... then we hope we've nudged you towards seeing a premade bag in your machine as the way to go!
